Data security is a global issue, and cloud solutions are still being watched with eagle eyes, especially in Europe and Germany. We don't quite trust the whole thing.
Emails with ZIP attachments are blocked by the company firewall, sending individual data is sometimes too much, or the data is simply too large. 10 MB is often the limit for email attachments. It is therefore important for us to find a solution for exchanging particularly large data via the cloud. DRIVE works with the free software Nextcloud to store data on its own servers. The cloud makes it easy and, above all, secure to work together on projects and, in particular, to exchange data. The servers used are located in Germany and comply with GDPR requirements. The desired files can be accessed both from a desktop computer and on the go via an app.
We create a folder in the cloud and set up personal access for you as required. This allows you to upload and download content.
To share content, permissions must be created via URLs. There are many options to ensure that everything runs smoothly during data transfer:
- Option to enter email addresses that are to be shared for the files
- Different sharing options:
- Read-only permission
- Permission to upload new documents
- Additional permission to edit documents
- Hide downloads
- Set an expiration date
- Add notes to the recipient
- Password-protected documents
- This is always standard with DRIVE; a password will be sent to you in a separate email.
The URLs to the files are sent immediately after entering the destination address. The data in the cloud is deleted immediately after our download, as we only want to transfer the data and not store it—it is stored on our server and in our project management tool JIRA.
