Stephan Probst has been asked by the Kunstverein Wunstorf to organize an exhibition of dystopian and utopian comics by the world's most amazing illustrators. Andreas Wehrheim, lecturer at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts for Visual Communication, and Bernd Frenz, comic author, are supporting him in this endeavor. The exhibition will run from July 5 to 26, 2026, with a vernissage, workshops, and activities.

UTOPIA - A new beginning or the end?
Utopian-dystopian exhibition of visionary comic worlds at KUNSTVEREIN WUNSTORF from July 5 to 26, 2026
What will our world look like tomorrow? Artists have been asking this question since the dawn of time. What answers can we find today? And what ideas can we inspire? What can people see in them and perhaps learn? This exhibition showcases works by contemporary comic artists from the Hanover and Wunstorf region, northern Germany, Europe, China, and around the world. We are all grappling with this topic.
Because COMICS are the best medium for UTOPIA
The possibilities in COMICS are INFINITE. Absolutely NOTHING limits imagination and representation. We can and may show EVERYTHING: there are no boundaries, anything goes. All that is needed to make visions come true is a pen and paper, tablet, wall, or other surface. Super illustrators and comic artists from Wunstorf, Hanover, the north, Europe, and the world are invited.
What we offer the audience and visitors
- THE exhibition full of action, drama, fun, and madness around dys- and utopias
- Workshops with COMIC artists for creating beyond the margins
- COMIC happenings and readings with blood, sweat, tears, and maybe even music
- Drawing and signing sessions with games, fun, and surprises
- Book table with COMICS, sketches, leftovers, and original material
What art and artists will gain from it
- Joy, fun, good vibes, and great people with a passion for art, whom we will delight
