The European Heritage Label

Since 2011, the European Union has been awarding the EKS to European cultural monuments, cultural landscapes, cultural sites, and memorials. Sites that are symbolic and exemplary of European unity and the ideals and history of Europe or the European Union and express this significance through appropriate activities are eligible for this award. The aim of the initiative is to strengthen European citizens' sense of belonging to the EU and its common values and to facilitate access to European cultural heritage. Every two years, the member states participating in the initiative can submit up to two proposals, from which a European jury selects a maximum of one proposal. And this year, the city of Paderborn's project has been nominated for Germany. So far, 67 sites across Europe have received the label. A list of the sites in Germany can be found at https://www.kmk.org/kmk/information-in-english.html
