October 5, 2021 was the big day! The new TYPO3 version 11.5 or v11 LTS was released! As a TYPO3 Gold Member, we always look forward to the latest features and improvements developed by the community.

FINALLY! Release TYPO3 v11 LTS
Overall objectives
- Faster and easier upgrade path from TYPO3 v9 and TYPO3 v10 installations
- Improved experience for editors and administrators
- Focus on accessibility for the TYPO3 backend
- Optimized authentication
The TYPO3 v11 LTS version will be fully supported for 1.5 years and will receive security and critical fixes until October 2024.

The following features await us (and a few more):
Backend user interface: improved user-friendliness – more intuitive, user-friendly, and faster. For example, metadata from multiple files can now be edited simultaneously, and more.
- Improved list view with new functions
- Working with files and folders
- Deep links in the TYPO3 backend: When you have questions about content maintenance, you can now work with screenshots or just create and share links to the backend.
- Backend URLs can be shared
- The backend can be reloaded without losing the current context
- Direct access to specific backend modules, pages, and/or content is possible

Collaboration through workspaces and content staging
- Flexible and secure multi-factor authentication: for security reasons, logging in with a username and password alone may no longer be sufficient. There are now additional options, which can also be combined, for logging in even more securely:
- QR code for setting up MFA (TOTP)
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) in user settings

Improvements for developers
- PSR-7 request/response
- Future-proof: supports PHP v7.4 and v8.0
- Deployment and dependency management
- Fluid widgets are no longer supported in version 11. Paging was a popular feature. As an alternative, the pagination API was introduced in TYPO3 v10.
Higher system requirements for TYPO3 version 11
When updating from older versions, please note the increased system requirements:
--> PHP 7.4+ – it is better to upgrade to PHP 8.0 right away
Database support (according to Doctrine DBAL):
- MySQL 5.7.2 or higher (8.0 recommended)
- PostgreSQL 9.4 or higher (9.6+ recommended)
- MariaDB 10.2.7 or higher (10.4+ recommended)
- SQL Server 2012 or higher
- SQLite 3 (included in PHP)
TYPO3 v11 should support the following browsers:
- Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based only)
- Mozilla Firefox
- Safari + Mobile Safari
- Google Chrome + Chrome for Android
TYPO3 version 11 requires the following libraries:
- Doctrine DBAL 3.0
- Symfony 5.2+
- Twitter Bootstrap v5
- Composer v2 for Composer-based TYPO3 installations
Upgrades
Another feature is simplified upgrades. The Extension Scanner and Upgrade Assistant are useful tools for supporting migration tasks or identifying self-developed extensions with outdated APIs, for example.

Now is the time to upgrade or even start your first project with TYPO3 v11!
