BRAIN, HEART, and POCKET - Nothing works without investment

How we must think and act as entrepreneurs.

The world seems to have come to a standstill and nothing is moving anymore? That cannot be the case, and it should be diametrically opposed to our self-image as a company and as entrepreneurs.

The current situation: is the world turning into a parking lot?

Caution – don't overdo it

The lockdown has left many companies staring into the abyss or even plunging into it. All or at least many of them, employees and leaders alike, have been made acutely aware of how fragile business models can be. “Safety first” seems to be the motto for many, but people are not just driving cautiously, they are literally standing on the brakes. The only problem is that this means nothing is moving forward. Companies that do nothing lose their purpose and meaning, and with that, their raison d'être.

Use ideas and passion

Many lack financial resources. The crisis has depleted reserves, government aid is being claimed, and people don't want to spend money elsewhere. But money isn't the only thing you can invest. Ideas and passion are just as valuable!

We must ensure that life can go on. It is essential that companies continue to move forward and not stand still. We don't want to be a parking lot, and we can't be one.

Don't fear the next wave

Sure, there may be another wave, and another one after that, and more. But we have to learn to live and work with it and, if we haven't done so already, take long-overdue measures.

Digitalization is common sense

Everyone agrees that this is crucial for building or restructuring a company. But the challenges lie in the details. Without a good blueprint, such a project cannot move forward: we need the right tools, better processes, and smarter products. New things often lead to progress.

Hygiene is care

For employees and at the same time active health promotion. It is important that everyone in the company is doing well, that we avoid unnecessary risks, and that we plan and implement our processes and exchanges both internally and externally. This boosts the performance of us all.

No compulsory attendance increases flexibility

Home office PLUS team office – we no longer have to be on site every day; in many cases, attendance is not necessary. In some cases it is essential, in others it is necessary to strengthen a community, because a team has to work well together, sometimes using tools, sometimes in direct contact.

Economic efficiency is a must

And the most important means of achieving our goals.

Good communication – never has it been so valuable as it is today!

Apologists are popping up everywhere, offering their supposedly foolproof “recipes” for how ‘advertising’ works: with “fear,” with “biological processes,” with “the unconscious,” or with, lo and behold, “mysterious algorithms”... and much more.

We would like to expressly warn against this! People are capable of learning and they understand when someone is trying to deceive them, some later, many earlier than these false prophets would like. Algorithms are also written by people, based on assumptions, prejudices, desires, and objectives. This is something that needs to be addressed intensively.

It is important, in our opinion, to inform your counterpart openly, clearly, and transparently about your intentions in a dialogue. Clearly state the advantages for the other party. And in doing so, show how you understand them, so that together, in dialogue, you can achieve something better that is beneficial for everyone. New, surprising, important—this is how communication can help, and then it is “good.”

“Doing” – well, thoughtfully, and without slowing down

We are positioning our company so that it can perform well and powerfully even under difficult conditions. An economically sensible approach ensures functionality. It creates the conditions for powerful performance in the future. And we must give this power a direction.

This is now the point where “doing” is called for, where we have to tackle things: think them through, design them, and develop them.

You have to invest: brain, heart, and pocket

  • BRAIN: Better ideas. Offer new suggestions. Create good opportunities. Develop chances for new things.
  • HEART: Passion. With more, harder, and better work. As Oliver Kahn says: “Keep going! Always keep going!”
  • POCKET: Money. If you don't have it, then the first two investments are all the more important. That way, you can refill your pockets as a cushion for the future.

You can't do without it when you work in a company, manage it, or even run it. If I don't have money, then I just have to work even harder and with more passion. Or I think even more carefully. And when I reach my limits on my own, I look for someone with whom I can inspire each other, where we can let our thoughts fly and move toward new horizons together. That, too, is “good communication”—the kind that excites, inspires, and moves you forward. And that's how we do it at DRIVE (at least that's our goal).
