Accept all cookies! Do it! Go on!

New additions to the “Cookie Banner” series.

News from the “Cookie Banner” series:

We have been keeping you up to date on this topic since 2019 (links below). Since cookie banners became commonplace, we have been confronted with a wide variety of versions while surfing the web. They appear in the middle of the screen, covering the entire page, with the rest of the website fading into the background. Then there are toolbanners, which we also customize for our customers, and small banners that say: “We use cookies, just to let you know.”

And more and more often, we find ourselves annoyed by texts and buttons, mainly from shops, that say: “You can also accept all cookies by clicking on the ‘Accept all cookies’ button.”(from zara.com) and I first have to go to the cookie settings to make sure that only functional cookies are enabled. Because I can only accept or navigate to the settings. The website itself, and with it the shopping experience, is unusable. Since we really want to shop and don't have time for cookie settings, we click on the damn “Accept all cookies” button.

It has simply become established practice to increase the user consent rate through certain designs of the consent banner. “Agree” in green and bold, “Decline” in gray with white text. Or I first have to click on the cookie settings in the banner to see the current settings, which are usually only functional, and then confirm them. Often, however, “Agree” activates all tracking cookies beforehand! Overall, everything is simply confusing and complicated. This “nudging” (in the sense of a thought-provoking prompt) is controversial. Ergo: Legislators will make improvements here, restricting creative freedom to such an extent that our users will only click “Reject.” What a shame! A charming and creative opt-in request doesn't hurt anyone, but it doesn't generate much user data, which means no website optimization and no more opportunities for higher sales.

Isn't it wonderful that we have been working on this for a long time and have solutions for you that allow you to collect good user data even without banners? So, better act today than tomorrow! Because once the law comes into force, many will have to act. Users will notice this. So: Better change now and be well positioned for the future! Let's talk!
