Record Attendance and Enthusiasm: “UTOPIA” Comic Exhibition Opens to Great Acclaim at the Kunstverein Wunstorf Wunstorf

What a start! The opening of the new comic exhibition “UTOPIA – New Beginning or Downfall?” at the Kunstverein Wunstorf on Sunday afternoon, July 5, 2026, broke all previous records. The rooms were packed to the brim. At times, at least three times as many visitors as at other opening receptions crowded through the exhibition—and this continued throughout the entire afternoon.

Enthusiastic Guests and Praise from Prominent Figures

The audience response was overwhelming. There was palpable enthusiasm among the guests for what comics are capable of achieving as an art form. Wunstorf’s mayor, Carsten Pillusch, was also deeply impressed. He particularly praised the exceptionally high quality of the exhibits, as well as the stylistic and thematic diversity and breadth of the works on display. The exhibition impressively demonstrates that comics can masterfully convey complex social issues ranging from hope to dystopia.

A large number of artists in person

A special highlight for comic book fans and art enthusiasts was the presence of numerous participating artists. Visitors took advantage of this rare opportunity to talk directly with the creators of the works. In attendance were:

Andreas Wehrheim, Bernd Frenz, Dagmar Gosejacob, Gernod Gayk, Hannah Kronen, Hatiye Garip, Jan Bintakies, Jan Thüring, Julia Briemle, Mamei, Matthias Vogel, Miguel Fernandez, Ralf Marczinczik, Ron DMC Kruse, Stephan Probst, Susanne Kuhlendahl, and Zoe Tschöke.

A strong team of curators

Responsible for the successful overall concept and the high-caliber selection is Stephan Probst, who curated the exhibition. He received active and expert support from Andreas Wehrheim and Bernd Frenz. Together, they have created a visual experience that Wunstorf will not soon forget.

The organizers extend their special thanks to all participating artists who entrusted us with their valuable works, thereby laying a strong foundation of trust for this project. Visitors had the rare opportunity to engage in conversation directly with the creators of the artworks

The organizers also extend their sincere thanks to the  team atDRIVE — The Media Agency for their professional handling of all communications. The Kunstverein would also like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the dedicated Kunstverein team for their hard work in preparing the event, the successful installation of the artworks, and the excellent catering, which perfectly rounded out the afternoon.

Special thanks also go to Mr. Carsten Piellusch, Mayor of the City of Wunstorf.
